PHIL HARE RECEIVES ILLINOIS EDUCATION ASSOCIATION ENDORSEMENT

JOINED BY TOP DEMOCRAT FOR MEETING WITH TEACHERS IN MOLINE

Rock Island, IL.—Phil Hare, the Democratic candidate for Congress in the 17th District, was joined today by Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey (D-CA) and members of the Illinois Education Association (IEA) for a meeting in Moline today.  The IEA has 125,000 members in Illinois and is part of the National Education Association (NEA). The IEA and NEA have endorsed Hare.  Rep. Woolsey currently serves as the top Democrat on the U.S. House Education Reform Subcommittee and could be its Chairwoman in a Democratic Congress.  Hare and Woolsey's remarks focused on education, including the No Child Left Behind law, before and after school programs and college affordability.

"I'm honored to have received the endorsement of the Illinois Education Association," said Hare. "The teachers and leaders here, representing thousands of IEA members throughout the district, have been a huge help to my campaign.  I share their goals and priorities for securing more resources to make our education system better and give students and teachers what they need to succeed.  I asked Congresswoman Woolsey to come to town because she is a national leader on education.  I wanted teachers in our area to be able to speak directly with a leading policy maker about ways to help our teachers and our students.  If I'm elected, I will regularly meet with teachers, parents, students and administrators so I will always know what's happening at the local level and so I can represent their views in Congress. "

Congresswoman Woolsey spoke about the No Child Left Behind law, before and after school programs, teacher salaries and higher education.   In discussing No Child Left Behind, she insisted it must be "Fair, flexible, and fully funded." Woolsey went on to say that, "it's important to elect people like Phil, who know their districts and are willing to roll up their sleeves and get to work.  I can't wait for Phil Hare to be in Congress," She said.  "He's just the kind of leader we need to help accomplish our education goals."

Woolsey is in town joining Hare for several issue-based events and fundraisers today.
