The country has lost too many jobs over the past 4 years due to unfair trade practices and the inability for American labor to compete. And unfortunately, we have not been spared here in the 17th District.
Thousands of manufacturing jobs have been lost to places such as Mexico, China and South America because their average wage is less than $2 per day. Many of these countries allow companies to employ children, prevent workers the right to organize and deny health and wage protections. It is a race to the bottom and it must be stopped.
I support the International Workers Rights Caucus that works toward labor rights for everyone around the globe. If we work to increase labor standards and the standard of living in developing nations it will help to end the practice of labor exploitation.
